How to Get the Best Photo Quality using Photoshop & Canon Printer

I've been tinkering with our Canon iP3680 to get the best results for our photos. At first, most of the output were too pinkish or reddish. I did some reading and found out what settings would change the quality of the photos.

If you're using Adobe Photoshop (I'm using the ancient PS7) to edit and print your photos, invitations, etc., the easiest way to handle color management is to let Photoshop do it for you instead of your Canon printer. Here's how you can adjust the settings of your printer and Photoshop for best photo prints or if you want the colors on your screen to match the printouts.

#1:
First of all, we need to disable color management on our Canon printer.
Go to Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes
Right click on your Canon printer and choose Printing Preferences (we're doing this so it'll be a permanent/default setting).
#2:
On the Main tab, select Manual under Color/Intensity and click on the Set button.

#3:
Under Color Adjustment, make sure everything is at 0.
For the Brightness setting, you can actually change this if you want to, especially when you're printing dark or dim images. You can choose Light if you want to or Dark if the photo is too bright. I just use Light or Normal.

#4:
Go to the Matching tab and choose None for color correction. This is how you disable the color management on your Canon printer.
If you don't like the print results of your documents on Word, etc., you can always change it back to Driver Matching when printing documents.
Now, click on Okay until all the windows of Printing Preferences are closed.

#5:
Open Adobe Photoshop.
Click on View on the main menu -> Proof Setup -> Select Custom.

On the Proof Setup window, select Adobe RGB (1998) under Profile menu. Then, click on OK.

This will ensure that what you see on your screen is also on Adobe RGB color profile.

#6:
Open the image you want to print through Adobe Photoshop.

For PS7, click on File -> Print with Preview.
You'll get the window below. Now, make sure all the other settings are correct (print size, page setup, etc).

At the bottom of the window, under Show More Options checkbox, you'll see a drop-down menu with Output as the default selection. Click on it and select Color Management.
Then, under Print Space, select Adobe RGB (1998) for Profile.
This should be available as an option for Canon printers as this is included in the installation of the printer drivers. If you don't see this, you might have not included this during installation so you have to go back to the installer and just install Adobe RGB.

For CS+, click on File -> Print.
You'll see a window like the one below.

On the right side, under Color Handling, select Photoshop Manages Colors.
Then, make sure under Profile that Adobe RGB (1998) is selected.

#7:
That's it. Now you can try to print your photos or any project on Photoshop and the colors that you see on your screen would be closest to the print quality/output.

Now, if you still encounter some color issues, I suggest you do some maintenance on your printer. Make sure you already did printhead alignment before you even started printing.

All my printouts with our Canon iP3680 that's now on CISS are as vivid as what I see on my screen.

This tutorial explains the installation of a Samba fileserver on Ubuntu 10.04 and how to configure it to share files over the SMB protocol as well as how to add users. Samba is configured as a standalone server, not as a domain controller. In the resulting setup, every user has his own home directory accessible via the SMB protocol and all users have a shared directory with read-/write access.
I do not issue any guarantee that this will work for you!

1 Preliminary Note

I'm using an Ubuntu 10.04 system here with the hostname server1.example.com and the IP address 192.168.0.100.
I'm running all the steps in this tutorial with root privileges, so make sure you're logged in as root:

sudo su

2 Installing Samba

Connect to your server on the shell and install the Samba packages:

aptitude install libcups2 samba samba-common

Edit the smb.conf file:

vi /etc/samba/smb.conf

In the global section, remove the "#" at the beginning of the line security = user so that it looks like this:

[...]
# "security = user" is always a good idea. This will require a Unix account
# in this server for every user accessing the server. See
# /usr/share/doc/samba-doc/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/ServerType.html
# in the samba-doc package for details.

This enables Linux system users to log in to the Samba server.
Close the file and restart Samba:

/etc/init.d/smbd restart

3 Adding Samba Shares

Now I will add a share that is accessible by all users.
Create the directory for sharing the files and change the group to the users group:

mkdir -p /home/shares/allusers
chown -R root:users /home/shares/allusers/
chmod -R ug+rwx,o+rx-w /home/shares/allusers/

At the end of the file /etc/samba/smb.conf add the following lines:

vi /etc/samba/smb.conf

[...]
[allusers]
  comment = All Users
  path = /home/shares/allusers
  valid users = @users
  force group = users
  create mask = 0660
  directory mask = 0771
  writable = yes

If you want all users to be able to read and write to their home directories via Samba, add the following lines to /etc/samba/smb.conf:

[...]
[homes]
   comment = Home Directories
   browseable = no
   valid users = %S
   writable = yes
   create mask = 0700
   directory mask = 0700

Now we restart Samba:

/etc/init.d/smbd restart

4 Adding And Managing Users

In this example, I will add a user named tom. You can add as many users as you need in the same way, just replace the username tom with the desired username in the commands.

useradd tom -m -G users

Set a password for tom in the Linux system user database. If the user tom should not be able to log in to the Linux system, skip this step.

passwd tom

-> Enter the password for the new user.
Now add the user to the Samba user database:

smbpasswd -a tom

-> Enter the password for the new user.
Now you should be able to log in from your Windows workstation with the file explorer (address is \\192.168.0.100 or \\192.168.0.100\tom for tom's home directory) using the username tom and the chosen password and store files on the Linux server either in tom's home directory or in the public shared directory.

Mail Merge Wizard
To start the Mail Merge in the new Word 2007, click on the Mailings tab. The Ribbon, the groups of commands you see on each tab, replaces the toolbars and menus. Commands are organized in groups related to activities such as you see below in the Create, Start Mail Merge, and Write & Insert Fields groups on the Mailings tab.

When you click on the arrow beside Start Mail Merge, a drop-down list appears as shown below. Select the last option, “Step by Step Mail Merge Wizard.”

This brings up the task pane as shown below. Select Letters (or whatever type you want) as the type of document and then click on the “Next: Starting document” link at the bottom of the task pane to go to the next step to select your starting document.

Selecting a Template

You have options to use the current document you have open, to select a template, or to browse to an existing document not open. For this practice, select “Start from a template.” This brings up a link you click on to “Select template.”

This opens the “Select Template” dialog box shown. Select the “Letters” tab and choose “Oriel Merge Letter.” Click on OK.

This takes you to Step 3 in the Mail Merge process in which you “Select recipients.”

Selecting Recipients

Select “Use an existing list” and click on the “Browse” link. Locate and open the file containing your data source. For this exercise, use the MailMergeList.xls.

This opens the following dialog box in which you select the table (the named range defined within Excel) containing the mail merge recipients info you want to pull into the merge fields in your document. Select “seminar” or “training” or whatever you named the range in your spreadsheet containing the names and addresses you want to use for the mail merge ("attendees" is the defined range selected as shown below).

Make sure to check the box indicating that the “First row of data contains column headers” so that the field labels (Last Name, First Name, Address1, etc.) on your spreadsheet won’t be mistaken for data. This opens the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box shown below. Here you can select which recipients to include or deselect by unchecking the check box by the name.

You can sort and filter the list using the drop-down list located on each field name indicated by the triangular black arrow. Note there are also links to Sort and Filter or Find Duplicates and recipients in the “Refine recipient list” section.

Click on the link “Next: Write your letter” to go on to the next step to edit the mail merge template letter content.

Inserting Merge Fields

Notice that the Address Block and Greeting Line fields are already inserted into this template letter. If you weren’t using a preformatted mail merge letter, you would just simply click on the links on the right to insert the Address block, Greeting line, or more items (more merge fields). You also have these same options on the Mailings toolbar at the top—you don’t have to use the wizard each time you do a mail merge. Pick the date and replace the letter content with your own and then go on to the next step to preview your letters by clicking on the link at the bottom of the task pane.

Matching Fields

When you click on the Address block link, the following dialog box appears in which you can choose the format of the address. Also, you can click on the Match Fields button to match the missing address field (the Match Fields button is also on the Mailings tab in the "Write and Insert Fields" grouping).

Clicking on the Match Fields button brings up the following dialog box. Use the Address 1 drop-down list to select the Street field name from the Excel spreadsheet.

Previewing Results

You have buttons on both the Preview Results group on the Mailings ribbon as well as the task pane to look at different recipient info before going on to the next step to complete the merge.

Completing the Merge

When you click on the link, “Next: Complete the merge,” the following appears:

Click on the link “Edit individual letters” which you can see from the screen tip is the link to “Merge to new document.” This is also a button on the "Finish & Merge" dropdown list on the Mailings Ribbon.

The Print link on the Task Pane or Print Documents on the Ribbon dropdown list allows you to merge directly to the printer. When you click on the link to edit the letters, the following dialog box appears:

You can choose whether to merge all or selected records. Click OK and then a new merged document entitled Letters1 is created. It contains the individual letters for each recipient. If you look at the status bar, you will see that it indicates multiple letters.

Saving

Save your work by clicking on the new Office button which replaces the file menu.

Select "Save As" to view the new options for saving in different formats.

The new "default" file format is .docx, a new file format for Word documents. It is one of the new Office XML formats. You also have the option to save in the Word 97-2003 format so that your file is compatible with those versions and can be opened in them. However, with earlier versions of Word, you can open a file created in the 2007 version by going to the Download Center at the Microsoft site and downloading the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint File Formats.

Link Maybank Visa Debit Card with Paypal

Finally! After numerous complaints from users, Maybank’s Visa Debit card can finally be linked to Paypal. You can use it to verify your Paypal account and hopefully withdraw successfully.
I can’t really say if its possible to withdraw funds from Paypal or not because I’ve not tried it but what I can tell you is that it IS possible to link your Maybank debit card with some easy steps.

Step One
Login to your Maybank2u account. Look under Utilities and Click on Maybankcard Secure Online Shopping Registration

Step Two
Select which card you want to use. In this case, I only have one card, so that is chosen by default.
Fill in the MSOS Password (has to be between 6-8 characters) and confirm
Fill in the Personal Assurance Message. This message will appear when you are asked for your password while shopping online. I think this is to ensure that is Maybank asking for your password and not some phishing site. There must not be any characters other than a-z.
Fill in the Expired Date, CVV, Hint & Answer

Step Three
Login to www.paypal.com with your paypal email & password.
In the My Account tab, click Profile and Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.
Key in the details of your Maybank Visa Debit Card. Make sure the address is exactly the same as your billing address.

Step Five
You will then get a verification email to your paypal account saying that you have successfully linked your card. And now all you have to do is add the code.

Step Six
Okay this is important : Wait for about ONE DAY before doing the following steps**
Login to your Maybank2u again and click on Accounts & Banking, then click on your Account number for your Account Details.
Then click on Debit Card History. You should then see an entry with the word “Paypal”. The code is the 4 numbers before the word Paypal.
Eg: PREAUTH SALE 8921PAYPAL-*EXPUSE DATED 06/08/09
Paypal Code : 8921
**If you check your account too early, you might not see the details of the transaction and would not be able to get the code

Step Seven
Log in to www.paypal.com and click on Profile, then Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.
Click on Enter Paypal Code and enter the code you obtained in Step Six.

Success!
And now you have successfully linked your Maybank Visa Debit Card to your Paypal. You will get the refund of USD1.95 to your Paypal account.
:: NOTES ::

If you have problems linking your card, check to make sure the details of the card is all correct – especially the Address. If all else fails, call the Maybank customer service.
I have no idea why USD 1.00 is also deducted along with the USD 1.95 when we verify the card. I didn’t have this extra charge when verifying with Al-rajhi Visa Debit Card
I have not tried to withdraw from Paypal to my card but I’ll be happy to hear your comments if you did try. Remember that Paypal charges USD5 per withdrawal.

How to wire the Turbo Timer w/o the Turbo Timer Harness

On the power harness, cut off the large 3-pin connector.
Tap or solder the cut lines of the power harness to the appropriate lines as shown below.
Be sure to ground the black wire to a good ground source.

Important: The Turbo Timer will not function properly if there is a bad ground connection. If grounding to the body, make sure to remove the paint for the best ground.

Optional set-ups

Optional: Connect for Optional Parking Brake Warning
This feature notifies the driver with a "beep" if the key is removed without the parking brake engaged.

Remove the cover for the parking brake. Look for the parking brake switch wire.
If there is only one wire from the switch, check to see: If the wire has: 0V when parking brake is ON 12V when parking brake is OFF If there are two wires from the switch, look for the wire that has:
```
0V when parking brake is ON   12V when parking brake is OFF 
```
Route the "BROWN" wire from the Safety Feature Harness through the center console to the parking brake switch.
Tap the "BROWN" wire to the wire from Step 2.
Reinstall the parking brake cover.

Optional: Connect for Speedometer Signal Feature
This feature will shut the engine off if the vehicle starts to move during "turbo-timing."

Connect the "PURPLE" wire to the speedometer signal wire from the ECU.
Please refer to the factory service manual of the vehicle for the proper signal wire.
This feature should only be attempted by a skilled technician.

Important: GReddy Performance Products, Inc. is not responsible for any damage caused by improper installation of the GReddy Turbo Timer.

IMPORTANT:
Please do not attempt to hold down the POWER switch button while the turbo timer is turned off. This may cause the Turbo Timer to malfunction.

Basic Operation

Test: Parking Brake Safety Feature



1. Repeat steps 1 through 3 of the basic operation check procedure

2. Step on the foot brake and release the parking brake. Be sure to have the transmission in either neutral or park.


3. Turn the key switch to the OFF position and check to see if the countdown and SND flash alternately. There should also be a beeping sound.

4. Re-engage the parking brake and check to see if the Turbo Timer continues to count down, without the SND flashing and beeping.

5. During countdown, release the parking brake. The engine should then shut down.

Test: Speedometer Signal Safety Feature


Caution: When checking this feature be sure that there are no objects directly in front of or behind the vehicle.


1. Apply the foot brake and release the parking brake.


2. Repeat steps 1-4 of the basic operation check procedure. It should count down and snd flash alternately with a "beeping" sound.


3. Then put the vehicle in gear, release the foot brake, and move the vehicle. The engine should then shut down.

This completes the operation check

If the Turbo Timer does not operate properly, first check all of the wire connections, contact the Authorized GReddy Dealer you purchased the turbo timer from for assistance.

How to change the preset time

By pressing the time switch, you can change the time setting.

When the Program Number is displayed.

When the Time is diplayed.

* If you tap the time switch button, the time will increase, by 10 seconds.

* If you hold down the time switch button, the time will increase by l minute.

How to program the preset time

By holding down the select switch, you can save a desired time for both P-1 and/or P-2

1. Set to the desired Preset time setting P-1 or P-2

2. Set the time to desired time by joggling the Time switch button.

3. Hold down the SELECT switch button for 2-3 seconds, until you hear a "beep." The desired time will now be saved in the turbo timer's memory until the battery is disconnected.

How to select the preset time

By pressing the select switch, you can select the 2 preset time settings

Preset Time Setting: P-1 > 1 minute P-2 > 3 minute

* To switch to a desired preset time setting, press select switch

* When the select switch is pressed while the digital display is showing the time. The turbo timer will then display either P-1 or P-2.

How to turn the sound off

By pressing and holding down the power switch while the turbo timer is ON, you can turn the sound ON and OFF.

1. Turn the POWER on.

2. Hold the POWER switch button for 2-3 seconds

3. Then the Turbo Timer will make a single beep, indicating that the Turbo Timer's sound mode is either turned on or off

I use this timer for my Daihatsu Mira L502 engine.

The FreeNAS Server

I feel so proud when the server I was able to work. I am a bit confused as I read the tutorial on the internet. Server is run on HP PC that has been unused.

System Requirements

To run FreeNAS, you will need, at a minimum, the following:

Motherboard with x86 processor
128 MB RAM
32 MB free disk space
Network card
BIOS that supports bootable CD-ROMs
Another workstation with a modern web browser and access to the network FreeNAS is on

For the initial installation, you will need to have access to the above system requirements plus the following:

Monitor (for text mode console)
Keyboard
CD-ROM drive
Another workstation with Internet access, CD burner, and CD burner software that can burn an ISO

Skill Requirements

The skills needed to perform a basic setup of FreeNAS might require a bit of background understanding in some different fields but a good setup tutorial (I’m working on those as you read this) will walk you through those hurdles. But, here are some skills that will make it easier for you to set up FreeNAS:

Basic FreeBSD hardware naming conventions
Basic computer hardware installation

3. Can do other work on our computer.
4. Keep a larger size.
